Famous
Spanish singer
returns to his birthplace
|
Miguel
Bosé, one of the most recognizable Spanish-language voices
of all times, will offer the best of his repertoire at Anayansi Theater
of Atlapa Convention Center, on Wednesday, May 11.
The son
of Spanish bullfighter Luis Miguel Dominguín and actress Lucía
Bosé, Miguel was born in Panama on April 3, 1956 (his mother
went into labor during a stopover at Tocumen International Airport
during one of his father’s tours).
Having
spent most of his childhood in Madrid, surrounded by a number of celebrity
figures, young Miguel left Spain for London, where he studied theater
and dance at age 17. Although he managed to get minor roles in a number
of European films during the early 1970’s, Bosé soon
discovered that music was his passion.
He captivated
audiences both in Latin America and Spain with the romantic hit, "Linda",
in 1977, but became a celebrity in his own right with "Amante
Bandido" (1984), appealing to a more mature audience with his
versatile style.
Tickets
to Bose’s concert cost $100.00, $70, $45 and $20 can be purchased
at all Blockbuster video rental stores.

Jesus
Christ Superstar to be
staged at National Theater
|
One
of the biggest theatrical events of the year will be the stage presentation
of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, which will
run at Panama City’s National Theater May 27-June 5.
Co-written by Tim Rice
as a rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar was introduced in1970. It
highlights the political and interpersonal struggles of Judas Iscariot
and Jesus, and is told largely from Judas' irreverent point of view.
The action takes place within the last week of Jesus's life, beginning
with the entry into Jerusalem and ending with the Cruxifiction.
Twentieth-century attitude and sensibilities pervade the lyrics,
and ironic allusions to modern life are scattered throughout.
The opera was first
heard as an album before being staged—in London's West End
and later on Broadway.
The show opened on Broadway
in 1971 to mixed reviews. Many religious groups protested outside
the theatre, claiming that the show sacrilegiously portrayed Jesus
Christ as a mere man.
Tickets cost $30.00,
$25.00, $20.00 and $5.00, for sale at TicketCenter. For more information,
call 279-1010 or visit ticketcenterpa.com
