November 15:

Mexican singer to steal hearts
at Figali Convention Center

November brings a long list of concerts to Panama, the first of which is that Mexican pop/Mariachi star Alejandro Fernandez, on Tuesday the 15th at Figali Convention Center, in Amador.

Fernandez’ career has been constantly ascending during the last 12 years. His albums continue to attract millions due to their unique mix of romantic ballads, Mariachi and classical rhythms and sounds. He has performed with a long list of famous international performers, such as Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo and French songstress Patricia Kaas.

Tickets cost $125.00, $75.00, $50.00 and $25.00, for sale at all Blockbuster video rental stores.

 
 
 

Ricky Martin is coming to Panama!

Get ready to shout aloud! Puerto Rican-born Enrique José Martín Morales (a.k.a. Ricky Martin,) who has captivated millions around the world with his hit "Livin’ La Vida Loca", has included Panama in his current international tour. Everything is ready for his concert, scheduled for November 23 at Las Islas Theater of Atlapa Convention Center. The Visitor will offer more information on the pop star’s visit in its next issue (Nov. 19.)

U.S. President to address democracy,
trade relations with Panama

U.S. President George W. Bush will visit the Isthmus on November 6. The official visit is a response to an invitation made by Martín Torrijos, president of Panama, earlier this year, although Bush's 24-hour stop in the Panamanian capital is part of a programmed tour of South America.

The progress of democracy in the region, and the war against drug trafficking and organized crime will be some of the main topics of the Torrijos-Bush meetings, although the free trade agreement between the two countries (which has been in a standstill since early this year) will also be addressed.

 
 
 

Folklore shows at Mi Pueblito

Mi Pueblito Tourist Center.

An excellent place to enjoy Panama’s Independence weekend celebrations is at Mi Pueblito tourist complex, located at the foot of Ancón Hill, on Avenida de Los Mártires (4th of July) Avenue.

Folklore troupes of various age groups take to the stage every weekend, between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Mi Pueblito is a replica of three, early 20th-century Panamanian towns, each of which honors one of Panama’s main cultures: Hispanic, African and Native American. It features handicraft shops, restaurants and small museums.

Christmas arrives early with the
"Non Cracker"

Christmas bells will start ringing a bit early at Teatro En Círculo this month with the stage performance of Dan Googin's "Sor Cascanueces" (The Nun Cracker), which will run November 9-December 7.

Directed by Panamanian theater master Bruce Quinn, the cast of the play includes Any Tovar, Cristina de la Fuente, Janelle Davidson, Cheli de Boyd, Victoria Greco, Felix Gómez and a choir of six children.

Shows are Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 4:00 p.m. For reservations and more information, call 261-5375 or 261-5259.
