Al Tambor de la Alegría:

The city’s newest attraction

A group of happy, well-entertained guests.

It is virtually impossible to figure out the exact expertise of the owners of "Al Tambor de la Alegría, the city’s newest "All-Panamanian" restaurant. Is it theater? Folklore? Or are they masters of the authentic, tasty, home-style cooking that has developed in Panama’s hinterland over centuries?

The blend of all three trades is starting to generate excellent reviews by the restaurant’s growing number of guests, especially from foreign visitors, who are able to enjoy a spectacular, one-hour choreographed show that takes them through the entire history of the Isthmus, from the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors to the construction of the Panama Canal, featuring 16 actors and 44 artistically-crafted costumes.

As guests enjoy this colorful "crash-course" in Panamanian culture, guests of "Al Tambor de la Alegría" (which takes its name from a popular Panamanian folklore song), the menu leads them through the delicious features of the country’s culinary geography, from the summit of "Volcán Barú" (an entrée encompassing Panamanian snacks, such as Carimañolas, Tortillas and Hojaldre) to the "Valley of the Moon", a well-assorted meat platter.

The splendor of Panama's Pollera, seen during the show.

Salad enthusiasts can choose to relax on "Playa Venado" (Tuna salad, green peppers and corn) or have the "Best of Boquete" (fresh tomatoes and onions).

After navigating over the "Southern Sea" (seafood soup), guests can set foot on either on "Coiba Island" (an octopus dish) or on "Bastimentos" (king prawns, with garlic or tomato sauce).

"Al Tambor de la Alegría" is located at Brisas de Amador For reservations and more information, call: 314-3380.

The lively shows of "Al Tambor de la Alegría" are a colorful compendium of Panama's culture.
