Shakira
at Presidente Remón Race Track: Nov. 9
|
Panama
City's Presidente Remón Race Track, in Juan Díaz, will
be transformed into an outdoor concert arena when famous Latin Rock
star Shakira arrives in Panama on November 9.
Very few
Latin stars have been able to do the "cross-over" into North
American markets like Shakira, who started her career as a ballad
singer at age 10. As she grew older, she rapidly captured Latin America
with hits such as "Estoy Aquí", "Tú",
"Ciega, Sordomuda", "Ojos Así", "Whenever,
Wherever", "Underneath Your Clothes", "Objection",
"Don't Bother". Somewhere in her mid-20's, she became more
of a sex symbol, due to the strong nature of her lyrics and sensual
hip movemens which have become her trademark on the stage.

The Latin star is famous, both in English and Spanish-language
markets.
Her successful
"cross-over" into English-speaking markets was made possible
thanks to hits such as "Underneath Your Clothes", "Objection",
"Don't Bother", and "Hips Don't Lie."
In mid-2005,
Shakira released the album, "Oral Fixation" in Europe, North
America and Australia. The lead single "La Tortura" (English:
The Torture, featuring Alejandro Sanz) eventually reached number one
in Spain and number twenty-three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. In
Canada, "La Tortura" also became the highest-charting Spanish
song when it debuted and peaked at number twenty-one. Its success
across the rest of the world was widespread and it managed to peak
within the top ten of the majority of the charts it entered. In the
U.S., "La Tortura" spent a record twenty-five weeks at number
one on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart.
Shakira
was born in Barranquilla, Colombia to a Colombian mother, Nidia del
Carmen Ripoll Torrado and an American born father of Lebanese descent,
William Mebarak Chadid. Shakira, means "grateful" in Arabic.

Di Blasio,
Manzanero to perform at Atlapa
|

Raúl Di Blasio |
Two Latin
American music legends, pianist Raúl Di Blasio and singer Armando
Manzanero, will join forces on the stage of Anayansi Theater of Atlapa
Convention Center on Thursday, November 16.
Born in
Zapala, a small city in southern Argentina, Di Blasio acquired notoriety
through-out Latin America after working as a bar pianist in Chile
and joining a rock group. Born into a family of farmers, he rehearsed
for long hours on the pianos of his high schools professors.

Armando Manzanero |
When he
was 27, a friend suggested he record his numerous compo-sitions, but
this did not yield the expected success, which came later. Today,
Di Blasio is known around the world for his talent as a composer,
blending styles such as jazz, pop, classical, Brazilian rhythms and
Latin American folklore tunes.
His partner
in Panama, Armando Manzanero, can well be considered Latin America's
answer to Frank Sinatra. Born in 1935 in Mexico, he began his musical
career at the tender age of eight. His songs have been recorded by
renowned artists from Luis Miguel to Elvis Presley. He has composed
over 400 songs of which more than 50 have attained international fame,
even north of the Rio Grande.
Tickets
to the concert cost $25.00 onwards and are for sale at all Blockbuster
video rental stores.

Santa Rosa and "El Gran Combo" have a lot in common. The
