Residential project in El Valle enters phase 2 |
THE SECOND phase of Las Nubes was launched last week by the property developers Inv. Moses Realty. This is a mountain community in El Valle de Antón, more than 3000 feet above sea level, giving it a spring-like climate of 20 to 30 degrees centigrade all year round. The project is located in the mountain chain of an ecological corridor and is one of the best places in Panama to observe exotic migratory birds. Johnny Roux Moses, representative of the developers, said that the architecture and design take into account the topography of the land. All the materials are natural: stone, wood and imported bricks. There are four types of houses and sizes of plot vary from 1000 m2 to 4000m2. They have three or four bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room, den, terrace, maid´s room, bathrooms and garage. Las Nubes is a private community with security. Around a hundred houses will be built. Ninety per cent of the first phase has been sold. Phases two, three and four have already started. The project will have walking trails, excursions, special activities and bird watching platforms. They are also planning to build an "ecological" hotel with SPA and gymnasium. |

Oil spill at Chiriqui Grande provokes big legal battle |
The spill of crude oil at the port of Petroterminales de Panama (PTP) at Chiriquí Grande in February has caused a legal and civil furore. The residents of the area, who are mainly fishermen decided to sue PTP for $500 million damage to the environment and their main source of income. Guerra y Guerra, the attorneys acting on behalf of the 16 affected communities put forward the complaint to the Maritime Tribunal. The tribunal decided to seize 5.4 million barrels of crude oil with a value of $300 million, that were stored at PTP. The oil however, is the property of Castor Petroleum, a client of the PTP, who want their oil back. They are asking the Supreme Court of Panama to overturn the decision of the Maritime Tribunal. Meanwhile, the operations at the Petroterminal have shut down and the workers are demonstrating in protest. |

Panama penalized at Panamerican Games in Río |
Participation of Panamanian athletes in the XV Panamerican Games in Rio di Janeiro, from July 13-29, has been put in jeopardy by disputes among the directors of Panamanian Olympic Committee, POC, amid accusations of appropriation of money destined to pay for the sportsmen´s trip. This provoked the suspension of Panama from the International Olympic Committee, barring the Panamanian delegation from carrying its flag, sing its national anthem or wear its colors. The Panamerican Games start today Friday and up to our press time, no solution has been found. Athletes are unhappy, especially Irving Saladino, number one in the world in the long jump, who refuses to compete without his flag. |
