“Arte por la tierra” |
A festival of images and colors |

The River of the Twins by Alexis Benalcázar.
Painters, photographers and sculptors recently got together to pay
homage to Panama´s natural environment with the exhibition "Arte
por la tierra", that is open until July 31 at Museo Antropológico
Reina Torres de Araúz (M.A.R.T.A.), located in Los Llanos de
Curundú.

A sensual and original piece of art.
The artists created their works in various techniques. The painter
Antonio Imbert, polished pieces of cedar, mounted them over his oil
paintings, to achieve a higher degree of realism. Meanwhile, his counterpart,
Alexis Benalcázar evoked images of virgin jungles, combining
strong colors and sensuality and nature motifs.
Sandra Eleta, with her photographs, depicted the beauty and grace
of the Kunas Indians. Her pictures convey interesting combinations of
light and movement, in addition to the emotions of her models, giving
a great visual impact.
The exhibit includes works by Braulio Matos, Brooke Alfaro, María
Gabriela Batista, Henry Bellido, Tavo Toral and Teresa de Icaza, among
others.
The entrance to "Arte por la tierra" is free. The Museo
Antropológico Reina Torres de Araúz opens Tuesday to Friday
from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m. |

Brazilian franchise Casa Cor launches design exhibit at Santo Tomas |

The old hospital building has been re-modelled.
AN EXHIBITION OF DESIGN, interior decoration and landscaping is currently
being held by the Brasilian franchise Casa Cor at the old Santo Tomas
Hospital Building on Avenida Balboa in Panama City.
This represents a spectacular launch for the Casa Cor brand in Panama
and a bonus for the Santo Tomas Hospital since their old original building,
which was abandoned five years ago during a re-modelling of the entire
facility, has received a $2.5 million facelift by Casa Cor.
Casa Cor started 21 years ago in Brazil and expanded to other countries
as far apart as Peru and Sweden. The franchise organizes an interior
design exhibition once a year in a historic derelict building, that
could be privately or government owned. Once the site has been selected,
the company makes appeals to sponsors and designers to create spaces
with the latest trends in interior designs.
This year the exhibition has 45 environments or corners and it is
divided in two areas: commercial and residential. The commercial part
has banks, restaurant, bar, bookshop and real estate office all of them
open to the public.
In the residential side, you will find rooms representing different
lifestyles and parts of the house, from the ultramodern kitchen with
computerised controls to the twins bedroom with its tiny toilets. Each
area has been created by an individual designer.
You can see Casa Cor´s exhibition until August 5 at Hospital
Santo Tomás, Balboa Avenue entrance. Monday to Friday from 4:00
p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and weekends from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Entrance:

Archangel's Feather (Venezuela,
2002), drama by Luis Manzo, with Iván Tamayo, Roque Valero,
Elba Escobar and Alejo Felipe. Based on a tale by Arturo Uslar
Pietri, the film takes place during the 30's and Juan Vicente
Gómez's dictatorship. Its expressive beauty contrasts
with the violence unleashed by the arrival of an "archangel"
who adopts the role of telegraphist, who alters the course of
events with his messages. Nominated best film at Cartagena and
Bogota. 92’ |
