The guests of a recent
bachelorette party were the first to ride on the "Tranvía
de las Estrellas" (which translates roughly as the "trolley
of the stars") –the Panamanian version of a humorous
tourist street car discovered in Rome by Mr. Juan Carlos Martucci,
who "tropicalized" the concept to offer visitors in Panama
a lively "party on wheels."
Visitors of all ages
(including children) are able to celebrate birthday parties, anniversaries
or simply discover Panama City with a lively host or hostess, DJ,
and karaoke as the trolley takes them around popular landmarks,
such as the banking center, the Amador Causeway, and Avenida Balboa.
Visitors can request
special amenities for any occasion, including the performance of
Panamanian folklore dancers, guitar or string ensembles, and Mariachis.
Tours include drinks and snacks. The trolley, which is operated
by well-trained tour drivers, has security features.
The trolley welcomes
parties of up to 40 passengers (US$20.00 per person) who can be
picked up at any location. Transport services to and from the airport
are also offered.
"Tranvía
de las Estrellas" is operated by Chivirumba, a company that
also operates a fleet of Panama City buses painted with vivid colors
offering more or less the same concept as the trolley.
