Torito Guapo
Festival in Anton

Townsfolk combine music, laughter and tradions
during the festival.
The “Torito Guapo” (Handsome Bull) festival will
be celebrated in Anton from October 15 to 20. Each year, since
1967, October 15 has been declared Torito Guapo day, a civic holiday
which will kick off this year’s festivities with a folklore
festival . The fiveday typical country celebration will offer
“tipico” dance groups, music contests, bulfights and
even “mojaderas”, where revelers cool off by dancing
under a stream of water. The festival also celebrates agricultural
activities like coconut peeling, cow milking, and carrying “leña”
(firewood).

The Torito Guapo is a tradition brought by the Spanish during
the colonial period. The festival takes its name from the main
character of the celebration - a man dressed in a bull-like costume,who
chases passers-by down the streets. See next week’s edition
of The Visitor for a calendar of events. Visit www.toroguapo.net
