Party Olympics April 18 at Chorrera fairgounds

Two young Americans living in Panama are throwing a drinking championship party next Saturday, April 18 at the Chorrera Fairgrounds called “Olimpiadas de la Parranda” (Party Olympics). Jeff Lane and Jerrin Tate of Joint 507 Productions are fiesta pioneers, bringing American-style drinking games to the country. There will be prizes up to $500 for the winners of different events carried out on stage like chugging a beer and then spinning around in a circle with one’s head on the end of a baseball bat successively until the last man is standing.

Jeff Lane and Jerrin Tate test out a beer bong and take stock of liquor.

The event is sponsored by ATLAS beer, Sauza tequila and Jagermeister, a German liquor. “Believe it or not, this is really about education,” said Jeff, “take Jagermeister (a cough syrup-like liquor) for example – it is a tradition at parties in the States. You just say ‘Jager!’ (pronounced “Yager”) and people get excited. Here, Jager is recently available but most Panamanians don’t know what it is, so we are going to have lots on hand.”

The party begins at 8:00 p.m. with music provided by Discoteca Professional Sound and a special appearance will be made by Panamanian raggaetonero Japanese. Visit www.olimpiadasdelaparranda.com to sign up with a drinking team before the event.

The Visitor recommends designated drivers or to investigate the area’s hotels for the night.
