Coronado Ladies Ladies on the Panama Pacific coast around Coronado have published a nude calendar featuring women over fifty to raise money for local charities. According to Louise Belisle, “It all started at a party in Coronado where Sandy Heidemann and a friend were joking and talking about how crazy it would be to do a ‘nudie’ calendar.” More [+]

Colón historic sites on watch list

The World Monuments Fund, a leading private historic preservation organization since 1965, has placed three Panama historic sites on their 2010 watch list. The sites are the center of Colón City and two old cemeteries containing the remains of West Indian workers on both the Panama Railway and the Panama Canal. The fund claims that expansion of port facilities in Colón threatens historic buildings as well as the Mount Hope cemetery and also Corozal Cemetery on the Pacific end of the Canal. More [+]

The Dracula is a fascinating and rare orchid species with monkey faces, long tails and sometimes even hairy blooms. The name means “Little Dragon” and these dragons are as unique as their ancestors. Enter if you dare to the Portón Cave

It was an opportunity I couldn’t miss: The Portón Caves near the Costa Rican border in Chiriquí that have stalagmites (rock formations that grow upwards) and stalactites (rock formations that grow downwards) and ancient cave paintings. “Wow!” I thought, “could this be Chiriqui’s version of France’s famous Lascaux caves with drawings of bison, deer and other creatures?” I enlisted the aid of my good friend Wally Ewen (who tipped me off about the caves).
