Last update: November, 2009 In Chiriqui the 9-hole course at Valle Escondido is open and a new 18-hole course is being built at the residential development of Cielo Paraiso. A championship course and residential development is also under construction at Tucan Country Club, the old Horoko course beside the Canal. GOLF AT CORONADOThe professional golf course at Coronado on the Pacific coast, 83 kms from Panama City, attached to the Hotel Coronado Panama, is an 18-hole par 72 course offering 7116 yards for professionals, 6637 yards for men, 5926 yards for seniors and 5545 yards for women. It is a challenge to both amateurs and professionals, with strong breezes during Panama’s five months of “summer”. The sixteenth hole is the most spectacular – a par 3 over water with a green surrounded by sand. Coronado also has a 9-hole (all par 3) executive golf course which can be played at night. It is dedicated to corporate tournaments ( after business meetings in the hotel), family and children’s tournaments. Professional golfer, Miguel Pinilla, presides over golf clinics.
SUMMIT GOLF & RESORTLocated in the midst of the verdant forests surrounding the Panama Canal, Summit Golf & Resort is a semi- private facility featuring 18 championship holes, a well-furnished club house, a Pro-Shop and a restaurant. The 6,626 yards course is at 72 par and was designed by the famous American designer, Jeffrey Myers. It is set in picturesque surroundings with stunning views of the Panama Canal and the Camino de Cruces National Park. VISTA MAR GOLF & COUNTRY CLUBThis is one of the country’s best-known golf courses, in the Pacific beach area on the Vista Mar Beach and Resort. Michael Poellot, the course, set around lakes on the 200 hectare property has spectacular ocean and mountain views. • Call (507) 832-0243 COSTA BLANCAThe 18 hole, par 71, world class Mantaraya Golf Club, situated at the Royal Decameron Beach Resort at Farallon was designed by the internationally renowned designer, Randall Thompson in association with the American Golf Course Design Company. It is set in lush tropical surroundings and incorporates many challenging water hazards. The facility boasts a practice range, driving range and proshop.

Golfers are well catered to in Panama and several new courses are under construction. The Panama Golf Club in the Tocumen area of Panama City is for members only, but Summit in the canal area welcomes guests. Coronado, an hour’s drive from the city is also available.
